FGA CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

MINI BEARS - This inspiring program introduces complementary skills such as rudimentary tumbling, hanging skills, and a fundamental understanding of direction which benefits children in developing a love of physical/mental activities as well as a sense of accomplishment in their new and wonderful achievements.

Our extensively trained instructors shower the children with affection, as they guide your Mini-Bear in early child-hood social skills through interactive songs, dance, a variety of swings, jumps, music, games, and props used to create, a fun happy atmosphere. This one-on-one interaction with Mom or Dad, in a social environment, stimulates and enhances the early learning experience.  Come jump, play, sing, and laugh with your child, and watch them grow before your eyes. This class provides wonderful bonding experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.

TINY BEARS - Our No Mommy Just Me instructional program provides a learning environment for your little one to grow physically and socially without having to be completely separated from Mom or Dad. The instructor will guide your little one in activities that encourage gross/fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and movement exploration. Equipment includes hula-hoops, climbing ropes, balance beams, tunnels, trampolines, and of course the awe-inspiring loose foam pit. This fun-filled class, captivates youngsters as they are constantly singing, hoping, swinging, bouncing, and taking turns on trampolines, trapeze swings, Tumbl trak, only to finish with “I Can DO IT Time!” Our Mini Bears and Little Bears finish their class feeling terrific that they completed so many new skills on their own. This is yet another very rewarding program that will captivate your child’s imagination as they move through the wonderful world of gymnastics.

TUMBLE BEARS - FGA’s pre-school gymnastic classes are one of our most popular programs. We know a good foundation at an early age leads to success.  Our professional staff guides these preschoolers in activities that improve strength, balance, flexibility, hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness along with teaching them the fundamentals of gymnastics and tumbling. They will enjoy running, jumping, swinging and climbing in a safe and fun atmosphere.  Equipment includes balls, hula-hoops, ropes’ for climbing and swinging, balance beams, chutes and ladders, tunnels, trampolines, and of course the favorite loose foam pit.  We understand child development, and we have designed our classes to meet the cognitive, social, and physical needs of young children.  At Farmingdale Gymnastics Academy, small successes never go un-noticed, and a nurturing class environment makes for happy, healthy kids

KINDER BEARS- The Kinder Bear program is an exciting fun-filled next step in your child’s development in the wonderful world of gymnastics. Its time to take those first solo steps on the high beam, or swing from the “Big Kids Bar”. This is a brand new age of discovery that will have your child excited to see what’s next. This is the beginning of Kinder Bear setting their own goals and being proud of their own accomplishments.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS LEVEL 1 - Gymnasts will focus on core strength, arm strength, and the coordination necessary to learn headstands, handstands, cartwheels and forward rolls- the fundamental building blocks of almost all gymnastics skills. They will spend time hanging, swinging, and supporting themselves on the bars in order to build the necessary strength to pull over onto the bars. Balance and coordination on beam will continue to improve through repetition of walking, jumping, and kicking, leading into turns and leaps. The focus on vault will begin with proper running technique, skipping and hurdling drills, leading to jump ups and squat ons. All athletes will grow at their individual pace with encouragement and positive reinforcement from our professional coaching staff.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS LEVEL 2 - All recreational classes are designed to be a continuation of skills and growth from the previous class. In girls 2, your athlete will continue to build strength and gain flexibility. The will begin learning backward rolls, back bends and kick overs. Having the strength necessary to do a pull-over allows the gymnast to focus on casting and back hip circles on bars. A renewed emphasis on developing balance and coordination on beam through walking, jumping and turning, allows the student to gain confidence and begin working on levers and handstands. Proper running technique will still be a focus on vault and students will begin learning handstand flat backs.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS LEVEL 3 - Gymnasts will continue to work back bends and kick overs, eventually shifting to walkover skills when individually ready. They will be learning handstand forward rolls, and begin working round offs. As your athlete builds more core and arm strength, they will start working glide swings and mill circles on bars. Handstands will continue to be a focus on beam, working not only 3/4 handstands, but also cartwheel to handstand dismounts. They will begin learning handspring vaults in this level as well as working on how to block off their hands in a handstand.

BOYS GYMNASTICS - Gymnasts will focus on core strength, arm strength, and the coordination necessary to learn headstands, handstands, cartwheels and forward and backward rolls- the fundamental building blocks of almost all gymnastics skills.  They will spend time hanging, swinging, and supporting themselves on the rings, high-bar and parallel bars in order to build the necessary strength to do pull overs, inverted hangs and straddle travels.  They will gain coordination through repetition of bell swings on the pommel horse and walking circle drills on the dome.  The focus on vault will begin with proper running technique, skipping and hurdling drills, leading to jump ups and squat ons.  All athletes will grow at their individual pace with encouragement and positive reinforcement from our professional coaching staff.

HS VARSITY - For any current, or potential varsity gymnasts who are looking to improve their gymnastics skills.  This class is directly geared towards the requirements for varsity gymnastics.  This class meets for two hours one time per week.

OPEN TUMBLE - This class is great for the athletes who what to work tumbling skills but want the flexibility to pay as you go and come when you can. Great class for back walkovers, cartwheels, roundoffs, the skills that lead into a back handspring, back tuck, etc. NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED

BACK HANDSPRING - Perfect for cheerleaders and anyone else who wants to learn how to do a back handspring/back tuck, or twisting.   NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED, this is a pay as you go class.

 

ADULT CLASS - This pay as you go class is great for former gymnasts/cheerleaders who would like a place to workout with skills they practiced as gymnasts/cheerleaders.  Beginners welcome, a coach is always on staff to assist you. NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

BOYS EXCEL - Having been taught the fundamentals in the last two levels, your gymnast has gained the strength, agility, balance and coordination to begin working a wide array of tumbling skills.  From round-offs, to front head springs, to back handsprings, they will love all the great skills they will be able to work.  They will start working kips on high-bar, fly aways and muscle ups on rings, and back uprises and swings to handstand on parallel bars.  On pommel horse they will begin working false scissors and full circles on the dome, all the while getting stronger and stronger.  On vault, their strong dive roll will lead them into front tucks and handstand flat backs.

GIRLS EXCEL - Having been taught the fundamentals in the last three levels, your gymnast has gained the strength, agility, balance and coordination to begin working a wide array of tumbling skills. From front limbers, to dive rolls, to round off back hand springs, they will love all the great skills they will be able to work. Their strong glide swings on bars can turn into a kip. They will learn a shoot through and front hip circles, all the while getting stronger and stronger. On beam they will have confidence in their jumps and turns and now begin working leaps and cartwheels. They will continue to work handsprings on vault and can eventually work up to vaulting over the table!

SPECIAL NEED - This gymnastics class focuses on basic movement skills that are extremely beneficial to children with special needs. Our main goal is to promote physical activity and participation in a positive environment to any child with disabilities. This class will work on improving self-confidence and self-image, increased social skills and motivation to try. We encourage children to try new things and come and grow with us !
